Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Toronto, Canada – GAO Instruments ( has announced the availability of its compact single fiber fusion splicer specifically designed for single mode fiber, multi-mode fiber, dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF), non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber (NZ-DSF), and erbium-doped fiber (EDF). The single fiber fusion splicer detects the fiber end-face and adjusts parameters automatically. It features a short splicing time of eight seconds, and an impressive tube heating time (sleeve shrinking time) of 40 seconds.

This user programmable single fiber fusion splicer, model A0620004, boasts simultaneous X and Y views, 256x magnification and a reversible monitor and a control panel on each side. It supports both manual and automatic splicing modes and supports up to 150 continuous splices and heats. The typical splice loss using this innovative fusion splicer is only 0.1dB to 0.3dB. The single fiber fusion splicer has a large memory and is able to store 8,000 groups of splice results. The splicer automatically adjusts to environmental conditions using built-in temperature, humidity and pressure sensors which provide constant feedback signals to control the fusion arc temperature.
