Optical Visual Fault Locator for Network Maintenance

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

Toronto, Canada – GAO Instruments is offering its optical visual fault locator which is a basic tool for the maintenance of fiber optic networks, optical systems including LAN, FDDI and ATM, telecommunications and CATV networks.

This pen style optical visual fault locator, model C0280004, is commonly used in quickly verifying continuity, checking the validity of patch cables and locating faults in both single mode (SM) and multimode (MM) optical fibers.

This meter features pen-shaped design, small size and easy to carry. Powered by two 1.5 V AA alkaline batteries, it can operate for up to 80 hours with modulated light and up to 50 hours with continuous light.

This optical visual fault locator belongs to GAO’s family of Visual Fault Series which contains three similar products that is suitable for network maintenance. One is Rugged Handheld Visual Fault Locator which is widely used for fiber optic network maintenance in telecommunications and CATV systems and can be used for locating break points which an OTDR did not find. Another is Handheld Visible Laser Source which is used to find fiber faults and is suitable for single mode and multi mode fiber. It uses visible red light to indicate the location of fiber faults from a macro bend point, break, problem coupler or connector or a mechanical splice that is not well aligned.

Optical Cable Routing Detector

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

Toronto, Canada – GAO Instruments has announced the release of its optical cable routing detector which uses multi-coil electromagnetic technology and advanced digital signal processing techniques for accurate location. It integrates a transmitter and a receiver into one unit which quickly and efficiently detects the route and depth of buried optical fiber cable.

This optical cable routing detector, model C0290001, can identify a target pipeline from multiple pipelines. And different locating modes and functions are used to improve measurement efficiency. It operates at dual frequencies of 480Hz and 31Hz to meet different needs and provides multi transmit modes including injection method, inductance method and clamp method. Injection method provides a maximum distance of pipeline routing of up to 10 km. Inductance method has a maximum pipeline routing distance of up to 3 km and clamp method offers a maximum distance of up to 6 km.

This optical cable route detector measures pipeline depth of burial at a maximum of up to 4.5 m with a measurement accuracy of ±0.05 h ± 5 cm. It also features automatic gain adjustment, pipeline state detection and has a low battery indicator.

This optical cable route detector belongs to GAO’s family of Fiber Optic Instrument. This line can be divided into many categories such as Fusion Splicer, Light Source, and Optical Telephone, and so on. A featured product in fusion splicer category is Digital Fiber Fusion Splicer which is an ideal tool for construction and maintenance of fiber and cable in both field and laboratory applications. Another product is Multi-Function Optical Talk Sets in optical telephone category which is widely used in installation, optical testing, and maintenance and fiber attenuation value testing in data, CATV and telecommunication networks.
