Toronto, Canada – GAO Instruments has released its CATV cable fault locator used to test cables to discover impedance break points and locate and reveal cable damages and terminal impedance failures in HFC systems. This locator is able to automatically locate and indicate the distance to many kinds of RF cable faults such as short circuits, open circuits or high resistance points. It belongs to GAO’s CATV Meter & Instruments family of products.
This smart CATV cable fault locator, model A0500007, uses time domain reflection (TDR) technology to display cable faults on its LCD screen and uses the analysis software to analyze the status of the cable. The pulse propagates with the certain speed specified for different cable types. The CATV cable fault locator accurately tests 25, 50, 75 and 100 Ohm impedance cables with a length of up to 2 km. It provides an electronic map relevant to the time domain picture so that faults can be detected easily. In addition, the locator has a “Self-Study” function and can connect to a computer for file upload and data analysis.
